Its extensive botanical gardens provide an excellent introduction to the country’s birdlife and are one of the few easily accessible birding locations near the international airport. The Caribbean lowlands are among Costa Rica’s richest birding regions, combining extensive rainforest, river corridors, and excellent birding infrastructure. This habitat supports an impressive diversity of species, including many birds that are difficult to find elsewhere in the country and provides an excellent introduction to tropical rainforest birding.

During your stay at Selva Verde Lodge, birdwatching begins right outside your room. The lodge’s trails, gardens, and feeding stations attract a wide variety of birds, while the surrounding rainforest offers excellent opportunities for lowland specialties.

A privately guided half-day birding excursion to the world-renowned La Selva Biological Station is included, providing access to one of Costa Rica’s most important rainforest reserves and some of the country’s finest Caribbean lowland birding.

During your stay at Bosque de Paz, birdwatching begins right outside your room. The lodge’s hummingbird feeders, gardens, and extensive trail system provide excellent opportunities to observe many of Costa Rica’s most sought-after cloud forest species. An early morning guided bird walk is included during your stay.

During your stay at La Ensenada Lodge, you’ll explore a landscape of tropical dry forest, open savannas, wetlands, mangroves, and coastal habitats. This remarkable diversity of environments supports a rich bird community and makes La Ensenada one of the most rewarding birding destinations in the region.

This unique location supports an exceptional mix of species from both ecosystems, making it one of the country’s most rewarding birding destinations.

During your stay at Tarcoles Birding Hotel, you’ll have easy access to several of the area’s premier birding hotspots. A privately guided birding excursion in Carara National Park is included, offering excellent opportunities to search for many of the region’s most sought-after rainforest species.

This globally important biodiversity hotspot harbors extensive lowland rainforest and is renowned for its high level of endemism, supporting several bird species largely restricted to Southern Costa Rica’s and  Western – Panama . For many birders, this is one of the highlights of the entire itinerary.

Surrounded by pristine rainforest, Esquinas Rainforest Lodge offers excellent birding opportunities right from the lodge. A privately guided birding excursion is included to search for the South Pacific’s unique regional specialties and endemic birds.

San Gerardo de Dota is widely regarded as the most reliable location in Costa Rica to observe the spectacular Resplendent Quetzal, which occurs here year-round.

Beyond the Quetzal, the region’s beautiful and often mist-shrouded cloud forests support a remarkable collection of endemic birds restricted to the highlands of Costa Rica and western Panama.
