Our objective is to offer you a relaxed birding tour at a slow pace using some of the best birding lodges in Costa Rica with a good balance between organized privately guided tours and free time to relax and enjoy the extraordinary Costa Rican fauna and flora independently.
Welcome at airport and private transfer to Hotel Bougainvillea. This is a comfortable hotel with access to a large botanical garden full of colorful flowers, butterflies and birds. A good place to look for the beautiful Lesson’s Motmot.
Selva Verde Lodge offers a great base to explore the Sarapiqui area. On day 3 visit Cope’s birdfeeders for easy birding and photography and a chance for Spectacled Owl. On day 4 guided visit to Pierella for Rufous-tailed Jacamar and the unique White-collared Manakin.
Head to Caño Negro, an authentic rural town only seldom visited by tourists at the edge of the Caño Negro wetland. Private guided boattour on the wetland and private nocturnal tour for Great Potoo and Black-and-white Owl with expert local birdguide.
Hotel Villa Lapas is conviently located near the local birding attractions. On day 8 guided private tour in Parque Nacional Carara; on day 9 you will have a private boattour on Tarcoles River and a private birdtour in Orotina to look for owls and tropical dry forest species.
At Hotel Gemas del Bosque you will be surrounded by lush cloudforest. Your host is a local birder who will assist you during a birding tour looking for Resplendent Quetzal and other highland birds. Bird feeders at the lodge offer great photography and easy birding.
Hotel Buena Vista is your final hotel: it offers a beautiful stay surrounded by coffee plantations on the flanks of Poas Volcano and with great views on the Central Valley. On day 14 transfer to airport.
