Villa Tica

Villa Tica is a very unique and exclusive private house with a spectacular natural setting at the base of the Talamanca mountains. orlando your private host will welcome you with open arms and make sure your stay at Villa Tica will be a very pleasant one. Villa Tica is located in Southern Costa Rica at about 30 minutes driving from San Isidro del General.

Facilities

Villa Tica offers luxery and very private accomodations iin a beautiful rainforest setting. Rooms are nicely decorated and have private bathrooms. At 1000 m of altitude at Villa Tica one can escape the heat of the lowlands and nights are cool. For that reason air conditioning is not needed. Villa Tica offers fine gourmet dining by your private host Oroland. there are some rainforest trails and Vila Tica also has a feeder with some nice colorful bird species that can be easily seen and photographed.

Birding and wildlife attractions

According to Ebird 320 species of birds have been recorded in the Los Nubes reserve that borders Villa Tica. Villa Tica is located in Southern Costa Rica at an interesting altitude of 1000 masl. This results in an interesting mix of species from the Talamanca highlands with also some influence from the unique avifauna of the Southern Pacific lowlands. Active sugar feeders placed in the Villa Tica garden offer great bird photography with some colorful species like possible Speckled Tanager, Bay-headed Tanager, Red-crowned Woodpecker and many more…

Target bird species

Costa Rican Brushfinch: this species is restricted to South Costa Rica and Western Panama. They can be seen along the access road of Villa Tica foraging on the grounds or in low vegetation.
White-crested Coquette: tiny little hummingbird restricted to Costa Rica and Panama. Especially the male is spectacular with piky white crest and dark green feathers that extend back from the side of the neck. Not easy to see but shows up often foraging on potterweed in nearby gardens
Turquoise Cotinga: a species restricted to Southern Costa Rica and West-Panama and vulnerable according to Birdlife International. Males are spectacular with bright light blue body and purple patches.
