Target bird species

  • Resplendent Quetzal: Hotel Savegre is one of the best places to observe and photograph the Resplendent Quetzal. This spectacular bird can be found in the Savegre valley during the whole year thanks to the year round availability of wild avocado fruits, the quetzal’s favorite food.
  • Long-tailed Silky-flycatcher: Very handsome blue-and yellow bird with long tail and crest. This bird is endemic to Costa Rica and Panama and is very common in the area
  • Goldenbrowed Chlorophonia: another very colorful species restricted to the highlands of Costa Rica and Panama. This species can be tricky, its emerald color blends in perfectly with the tree foliage. Sometimes they hang out in the surrounding apple or plum plantations
  • Sulphur-winged Parakeet: endemic parakeet that can be seen in large flocks flying up and down the Savegre valley. They are hard to see once the are perched but they tend to hang out in the nearby apple plantations, where they are easier to spot.
